AG26 questionnaire

TRL Ltd has been commissioned by the Footways and Cycle Track Management Group (FCMG) of the Roads Board to conduct research into the management of footways and cycle tracks. One of the tasks specified under this research programme is to review Application Guide 26 (AG26) ‘Footway and Cycle Route Design: Construction and Maintenance Guide’.

In order the determine updates required to AG26 we need to gather information from Local Authorities and in support of this, the FCMG have approved a set of questions relating to this research. This questionnaire can be downloaded from the consultation part of this website. If you employ a consultant, or have a partnering arrangement with a consultant, for your footway and cycle path design please feel free to ask them to complete a copy of the form either on their own or your behalf.

We appreciate that your time is valuable and you are no doubt very busy at the start of the New Year but without feedback from experienced practitioners we will be unable to improve AG26 for future use.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to use the contact details on this website

Footways risk model available for trial

Hammersmith Streetscape Design Manual available

Launched in December 2005, StreetSmart serves as a manual for people working in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. It aims to improve the public’s perception of the borough by creating streets that are both safe and attractive.

As a Beacon Council for street and highway works, Hammersmith & Fulham Council builds on an already glowing reputation by encouraging the coordination of work across different disciplines to get the best outcomes.

StreetSmart draws together the areas of design, engineering and planning. As well as being adopted across Hammersmith & Fulham Council, the guide is intended to inspire other professionals and practitioners in the field, including other councils and local authorities, to share their vision.

The 76-page first volume describes an approach to streetscape design. It explains how to make sure that street design respects and enhances local character. It also lists streetscape components and describes a way to use and maintain them in the future.

Volume Two, to be published in March 2006, is a technical manual for practitioners, which lists methods and materials to be used to carry out works on the highway.

StreetSmart — Volume One  can be purchased for £20 (inc. VAT), by telephoning Hammersmith & Fulham Council on 020 8753 1081 or emailing environment@lbhf.gov.uk.
