Welcome to the website of the Footway & Cycletrack Management Group (FCMG), one of four technical groups reporting to the UK Roads Board. The Terms of Reference of the FCMG are to:

"Take a broad view of Footway and Cycletrack construction, maintenance and management standards for all footways and cycletracks within the United Kingdom with the aim of steering all relevant research for which it is allocated responsibility by the Roads Board (or others)"

As well as steering research, the role of the FCMG is to ensure that the needs of footways and cycletracks are considered when formulating national policy and to encourage walking and cycling through the provision of safer and more attractive facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

In practice this means publishing guidance and best practice, keeping abreast of recent developments in policy, technology and materials and liaising with other important national initiatives including; UKPMS, Best Value, Asset Management and Asset Valuation.

The purpose of this website is to promote awareness of the work of the FCMG in general and through the publication of project reports and consultation papers where appropriate.
